You're about to spend time mapping your house into an app. Here's why you'd be trusting us with that.
Why we built Zendo.
Zendo began in our own homes. It started with a few Philips Hue bulbs. Then more accessories, so we went to Apple Home. Then Homebridge, because Apple Home couldn't see everything we owned. Then we needed Android in the house, so we ended up on Home Assistant, and later Homey.
What every one of those apps gave us was a grid of buttons. It works when you have six accessories and you set them up yourself. It stops working at forty, and it never worked for guests: they would stand in the kitchen and ask which button turned the lights off.
So we started designing something else, and landed on the floorplan almost immediately. Place the accessories where they are. Nothing to learn.
Friends saw it running in our homes and asked if they could have it too. That's how Zendo started.
That's still the test today. Somebody who has never seen Zendo before should be able to look at the screen and turn off the light in the room they're standing in.
The part you can check.
The smart home market is full of apps that appear, get posted about, and are gone within six months. It's a fair thing to be wary of, and "trust us" is not an answer.
So instead: the first private beta went out in March 2024 and the first public release in June 2024. Since then there have been many releases, and every one of them is dated in the changelog, back to the first. There's usually something from the last few weeks in there.
The documentation is the other half of it. Extensive pages covering all the accessory types, with worked scenarios for homes and commercial properties. Nobody writes that by accident.
We'd rather hand you both of those than a paragraph about how much we care.
An official Homey partner.
Zendo is an official Homey partner, which means Athom has liked what we have built.
For a young company that's worth more than anything we could say about ourselves, so we'd rather you check it than take our word for it.
What we won't do.
We don't take your home data. The app connects directly to Home Assistant or Homey. It doesn't pass through our servers, and we don't harvest personal data. You can use Zendo without an account.
We don't pretend to be a smart home platform. Home Assistant or Homey does the hard part. Zendo is the layer you use, and it depends on it.
We don't publish dates for things that aren't ready. The roadmap has statuses, not promises.
