Answer the door from the wall
A doorbell, a wall-mounted tablet and a smart lock, working as one door panel.
Someone rings. The tablet wakes up.
The tablet by the front door lights up, plays a ringtone, and shows a snapshot of whoever's standing there.
Tap Answer and you're on the live stream, talking to them. Tap the lock and let them in. Turn on the porch light if it's dark, from the same screen, without leaving the video.
Tablets in more than one room ring together. The second anyone answers, the rest stop ringing.

Four features, and a tablet.
A smart doorbell linked to a room on your floorplan.
Kiosk Mode on a wall-mounted tablet, so the screen stays awake and it's always ready to ring.
A smart lock or a smart door opener, linked with the same room as the doorbell. That's what puts the unlock button on the video stream.
An automation in Home Assistant or Homey to fire the ring when the bell is pressed.
No proprietary intercom. No door station. No second app.
It rings locally, so it rings instantly.
The ring comes from your system across your own network. There's no round trip to a cloud push service, which is the difference between answering the door and hearing the courier drive away.
It also means the panel still rings when your internet is down. For the video to work offline too, put the tablet, your system and the doorbell on the same network and use a doorbell that streams locally.
Push notifications are the other half of this. They reach your phone when you're out. The panel is for when you're in.
Questions people ask first
The alert clears itself after a short while and the screen dims again. Tap anywhere and the sound stops but the alert stays, which is handy when you've seen who it is and you're already walking over.
Yes. The alert appears while Zendo is on screen and the device only rings while connected, so Kiosk Mode is worth turning on. For phones, you use push notifications to answer the door when you're away from home.
Install your door panel
Download Zendo, turn on Kiosk Mode and pair your doorbell. 14 day trial.
